James Fernandes
Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon – International Surgical Training Programme (ISTP)Mr Fernandes is a Consultant Orthopaedic surgeon at Sheffield Children's Hospital (SCH) and Barnsley District General hospital which are now NHS foundation trusts. He currently works full time at Sheffield Children’s Hospital since 2016 and also does general adult foot and ankle surgery in his private practice with paediatric orthopaedics. His special areas of expertise are Paediatric limb reconstruction, DDH and hip disorders, Skeletal Dysplasias apart from delivering general orthopaedics and trauma. He runs specialised clinics in the areas of Limb deficiencies, Skeletal dysplasia, Osteogenesis Imperfecta and Achondroplasia with other disciplines.
In the last few years, he has taken a special interest in doing charitable work in the developing world. The first of his teaching and charitable operating was done in Malawi in June 2008 training orthopaedic surgeons of 9 African countries and live operating teaching sessions. He is a Chairman and President of the 4th World Congress of the combined Societies of ASAMI-Br & ILLRS and current Secretary of the British Society for Children's Orthopaedic surgery. He served as Examiner and International Examiner for the Intercollegiate Board examinations FRCS (TR & Orth).
