Sharad Karandikar
Consultant Colorectal Surgeon – International Surgical Training Programme (ISTP)
Mr Karandikar is based at Heartlands Hospital and Solihull hospital, Birmingham. He specialises in colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, colonoscopy and functional bowel disease. Alongside his consultant post, he is Bowel Cancer Screening Centre Director for the trust. He is involved in the teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate medical students, IMRCS Examiner and Tutor for the MS / MCh Coloproctology course, University of East Anglia. Mr Karandikar was awarded Honorary Fellowship of the Association of Colon and Rectal Surgeons of India (FACRSI) in 2009 for contributions to colorectal surgery and surgical training in India. Over the years, he has been heavily involved in appointing of ISTP trainees from India, Sri Lanka and Egypt within Heartlands Hospital, and supported their training through mentoring, supervision and their clinical inductions.
